Hawley Scouts Celebrate 100 Years of Scouting at Camp Wilderness

It was a great weekend! It started out in the parking lot at Wal-Mart, where several of the guys helped a couple of women load 200 lbs of dog food, groceries, and 3 cruiser bikes into a Chrysler convertible. We also saw a dog sitting in a trailer being pulled by a motorcycle.
As part of the 100 year anniversary of Boy Scouts, our Northern Lights Boy Scout Council celebrated by bringing back three retired Merit Badges that Scouts can achieve only this year. These are: Carpentry, Signaling, and Tracking. 12 Scouts from Hawley participated in Merit Badge Weekend at Camp Wilderness, located on Bad Axe Lake, north of Park Rapids, in order to earn one of these badges. We had 8 Scouts in Tracking and 4 in Carpentry. Typically, Camp Wilderness has a regular week-long sessions of Summer Camp and a weekend Winter Camp, so this was something new.
We stayed in the bottom floor of the Nature building, which worked out just great. When asked who wants to return in the Fall so they could take another of the badges, all the Scouts raised their hands!
