Merit Badge Challenge can net you $25!

There are 121 merit badges available to be earned in the Boy Scouts of America. I don't know if you've ever browsed the list of them or their requirements, but an awful lot of them are pretty darn easy. Web sites like MeritBadge.org make it really simple with help like merit badge worksheets and online blue cards. Easy enough that if a scout was really prepared, he could earn one in an hour or two. So darn easy that that same scout could not only earn the badge for himself in an hour or two, but he could also hold a "class" and coach his fellow scouts through the badge as well!
Sounds pretty cool, huh? Yes, but it's also probably going to be a bit of work. If a scout was going to do this "class", and he did it at one of our upcoming meetings this is what he'd have to do:
- Completely read and understand all of the requirements of the badge.
- Bring all the necessary materials needed to complete the badge, OR let the other scouts know - in advance - what they will need to bring in order to complete the badge.
- Arrange for a qualified merit badge counselor to be in attendance at the class to be on hand for guidance, support, expertise, and their signature.
- Let the advancement chair, the Scoutmaster, and the Senior patrol leader know what you're planning and which upcoming meeting time you would like set aside for your class.
That's it! And what do you get besides the great feeling of accomplishment and a job well done? Well, if that's not enough, I've decided to deposit $15 into the scout account of the boy who accomplishes this goal. Mr. Ludwig thinks it's such a great idea, he'd also like to contribute an additional $10 into that scout's account! That's $25!
So get crackin'! Let's see if we can add some weight to all of your sashes!
